Community Investment

Between now and 2032, we are investing about $69 million in critical maintenance and infrastructure replacement to modernize our drinking water system. This includes repairing the Goose Pasture Tarn Dam, storage tank repairs, transmission and distribution water main improvements, Gary Roberts Water Treatment Plant engineering and construction, and more.

You'll find more than 20 convenient water refill stations available at town facilities and parks. No need to buy drinking water. Bring your reusable bottle and hydrate for your health.

Plastic-free Breckenridge

100 billion plastic beverage containers were sold last year in the United States. That’s more than 300 bottles per inhabitant. A few of them will be converted into park benches; none of them will be made into new plastic bottles and 95% of all plastics in the US won’t be recycled at all. You won't find plastic water bottles in Breckenridge anymore. Turn to your tap for fresh mountain water.

Water Quality and Safety

Both of our water sources are surface water, and therefore contain small amounts of organics. We add chlorine for disinfection because we are required by the CDPHE and the EPA. We keep our chlorine level as low as we can to meet disinfection requirements throughout the 100 miles of water main. Customers living on roads with a dead-end water main also may experience chlorine odors. Please contact the water department at 970-453-3173, as they can possibly flush a nearby hydrant to resolve the issue.

Hydrate for your health

Breckenridge lies at 9,600 ft, high in the Rocky Mountains. It sounds pretty simple, but drinking plenty lots of fluids is key at elevation. Try to drink twice the amount of water here as you would at home. According to the Mayo Clinic, higher altitude accelerates dehydration. It may be challenging to drink fluids while traveling, but it does pay off. So, stop, drink some water and take in the view.
